A few weeks ago, my friend Gina and I decided to be spontaneous and plan a last minute girls trip to Cancun, Mexico. It was the perfect way to recharge after the holidays. We ate tons of fresh seafood, got to relax on the beach and had the chance to see one of the seven wonders of the world.

Getting there:

We booked our trip through Apple Vacations, who took care of everything from pick up to drop off and helped us with all of our tours. Our experience with them was nothing short of amazing, they were always on-time, pleasant and helpful to answer any questions we had.

Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort:

We stayed at the gorgeous, beachfront Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort. Located 10 minutes north of downtown Cancun, this adults-only, all inclusive-resort was spacious. It had the feel of being an intimate resort, a bustling city and nightlife all in one location.

On our arrival at Secrets, we were greeted with cold towels and a glass of champagne. Check-in was effortless and our bags were in our room before we were, talk about 5-star service. The first couple days of the trip were spent relaxing and trying to soak up the sun as much as possible.

Now onto the food. With over 9 restaurants on site and seven bars (including a swim-up bar), we never went hungry or thirsty. A few of my favorites included Oceana, a seafood spot located beach side with stunning ocean views, Portofino, serving Italian a la carte cuisine and Himitsu, a Pan-Asian and sushi restaurant. All of the dishes we ate was delicious and I really enjoyed the variety of options.

Exercusions:

Our first outing was an incredibly unique tour by Amstar. In case you haven’t heard of them, they provide airport transportation and unique travel experiences to individuals and groups.

On Monday morning, we all headed to Chichen Itza, a Mayan ruin on the Yucatán Peninsula. One of the highlights was when we started clapping at certain angles in front of the Chichen Itza, you heard echoes that sounded like various spirit animals.

The following afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit and explore Ike Kil, a sacred sinkhole 20 minutes away from the ruin. It was such a unique experience to see the beauty of mother nature.

All in all, this trip to Mexico came at the absolute perfect time. Everything about this resort was exceptional. The food was delectable, the service was great, the rooms were cozy, and the property was beautiful.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary trip by Apple Vacations, Amstar and Secrets Resort to facilitate this post. Review and opinions are my own.
